Op Koninginnedag, donderdag 30 april 2009, vindt gelijktijdig in New York en in geheel Nederland het carillonevenement Carillon2009 'Perfect Day' plaats. Op vele carillons in Nederland en op het grootste carillon ter wereld in New York wordt dan Perfect Day van rocklegende Lou Reed uitgevoerd.

Het evenement maakt deel uit van de festiviteiten rond de viering van het Hudsonjaar. Het is in 2009 400 jaar geleden dat Henry Hudson voet aan wal zette op het huidige Manhattan. Op het carillon van de Riverside Church in New York, het grootste carillon ter wereld, treedt de vermaarde beiaardier Sjoerd Tamminga uit Goes als gastbeiaardier op. Daarbij is de invloedrijke Amerikaanse musicus en zanger Lou Reed aanwezig. Initiatiefnemers van het project zijn Kris Elzer uit Groningen en Eddy Beekman uit Goes (Nederland) van de kunststichting StichtLicht.


Programma donderdag 30 april 2009

New York:

Van 11.30 uur – 12.30 uur brengt Sjoerd Tamminga een speciaal programma rondom Perfect Day ten gehore op het Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial Carillon in de Riverside Church. De vaste beiaardier van de Riverside Church is Dionisio Lind. Lou Reed zal deze uitvoering bijwonen.

Nederland:

In geheel Nederland wordt gedurende de dag op alle carillons Perfect Day gespeeld.

's Ochtends bijt het carillon van de Martinitoren in Groningen het spits af en aan het eind van de dag zal het carillon van de Maria Magdalenakerk in Goes de afsluiter in Nederland zijn. Gedurende de dag zullen in heel Nederland de carillons Perfect Day ten gehore brengen. In Apeldoorn zal reizende beiaard 'de Paltz' tijdens het bezoek van Koningin Beatrix bespeeld worden.


Lou Reed

Op de website van Lou Reed is een voorproefje te horen van de wijze waarop Sjoerd Tamminga de song ten gehore brengt (zie de hyperlink onderaan deze pagina). Lou Reed was in november 2008 in Groningen ter gelegenheid van een concertreeks van zijn echtgenote Laurie Anderson en heeft op uitnodiging van de initiatiefnemers van het carillonevenement een bezoek gebracht aan het carillon in de Martinitoren. Stadsbeiaardier Auke de Boer verzorgde een rondleiding en Lou Reed bespeelde met zijn echtgenote de Groningse beiaard. Lou Reed toonde zich zeer geïnteresseerd in het historische instrument en gaf dan ook zijn toestemming om Perfect Day te gebruiken voor dit bijzondere project.

In Goes is sinds 1998 op Koninginnedag elk kwartier Perfect Day op het carillon te horen. Hiervoor maakte sonoloog Jorrit Tamminga , de zoon van Sjoerd Tamminga, een arrangement voor de carilloncomputer. Dit maakt deel uit van het programma van Koninginnedag rondom de Stenen Brug, een kunstproject waarbij sinds 1998 jaarlijks een koninginnedag-nieuwe-stijl georganiseerd wordt.

Ter gelegenheid van de viering van de uitstekende Amerikaans-Nederlandse betrekkingen wordt dit lokale initiatief op Koninginnedag éénmalig uitgebreid tot heel Nederland en New York.

On Queen's Day, Thursday April 30th  2009, the event Carillon2009 'Perfect Day' takes place simultaneously in New York and in the Netherlands. On that day the song 'Perfect Day' of the celebrated rockmusician Lou Reed is performed on all carillons in the Netherlands, as well as on the world's biggest carillon at the Riverside Church in New York.

The performance is part of the festivities concerning the celebration of the Hudson Year. In 2009 it is 400 years ago that Henry Hudson set foot on the soil of present-day Manhattan.

Beiaardier Sjoerd Tamminga

The renowned Sjoerd Tamminga from Goes (NL) will play the carillon of the Riverside Church  in New York, the biggest instrument of its kind, as visiting musician. The influential American musician and  singer Lou Reed will be present. Initiators of this project are Kris Elzer from Groningen and Eddy Beekman from Goes (NL) of the artfoundation StichtLicht.

New York
From 11.30AM to 12.30 PM Sjoerd Tamminga plays a special programme around  Perfect Day on the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial Carillon in the Riverside Church. The usual carillonneur of Riverside Church is Dionisio Lind. Lou Reed will be attending this performance.

The Netherlands
In the Netherlands 'Perfect Day' will be played all over the day on all carillons that take part in the event. In the morning the carillon of the  Martini Tower in Groningen will start the celebrations and at the end of the day the carillon of the Maria Magdalena Church in Goes will finish the day in style. During the day carillons all over the Netherlands will chime 'Perfect Day'. In Apeldoorn the mobile carillon  'De Paltz' will be played during the visit of Queen Beatrix.

November 2008, Lou Reed was in Groningen at the occasion of a series of concerts by his wife Laurie Anderson, and he visited the Martini Tower at the invitation of the originators of the carillon event. The city's carillonneur Auke de Boer showed him around, and Lou Reed and his wife played the Groninger bells together. Lou Reed showed a great interest in the historical instrument and gave his permission to use his song 'Perfect Day' for this special project.

Since 1998 'Perfect Day' can be heard on the carillon in Goes on every Queen's Day every fifteen minutes. Sonologist Jorrit Tamminga, son of Sjoerd Tamminga, made a special arrangement for the carilloncomputer. This is part of the programme on Queen's Day around De Stenen Brug, an artproject which has yearly organised a new-style Queen's Day since 1998.
On the occasion of the celebration of the excellent American-Dutch relations this local initiative on Queen's Day extends for once to The Netherlands and  New York.

Op 30 april 1998 speelde stadsbeiaardier Sjoerd Tamminga het nummer Perfect Day van Lou Reed in een bewerking van Jorrit Tamminga op het carillon van de Grote of Maria Magdalenakerk in Goes, tijdens de eerste Koninginnedag Rondom de Stenen Brug.

Sinds 31 oktober 2008 is de opname hiervan te beluisteren op de site van Lou Reed zelf!
